For purposes of becoming certified as a PHR in Human Resources, what qualifies as "exempt level" work?

-

I am still looking for an entry level HR job, but eventually I want to get certified as a professional. I’ve researched the process but I’m not sure I understand what type of work you have to do before you can take the certification exam.

When you get your PHR, you are going to look back at this question and have a good chuckle at how much you’ve learned. Knowing the difference between exempt and non-exempt positions will no doubt be part of your learning. In brief, exempt positions are professional level salaried positions and "exempt" from overtime pay. Non-exempt is skilled and non-professional positions where you are paid hourly and receive overtime pay when you work more than 40 hours.

What salary should I ask for??? (Human Resources)?

-

I am graduating with my Masters in Human Resource Management and need a job in this field. Any suggestions on what positions I should look for and what salary I should ask for??

It will depend on where you are applying for work at (what city/state), and how much work experience do you have in H.R.? Having the degree alone with no work experience background in the field will affect what positions you can apply for and start out at.

What do I do about my DD 214 (discharge certificate)?

-

I am prior service active duty Army and I want to join my local Army National Guard unit. I was discharged from the Army 2 years ago (Re Code: 1 Honorable Discharge) and I kept my DD 214 at my parents house. Well, they didn’t know what a DD 214 was, and they put them in the garbage while they were cleaning out the house. Here is where I have tried to get another copy of my DD 214:

National Personnel Records Center, St. Louis, MO

Army Human Resource Command

My old unit

My congressman

Where can I get a copy? I have tried for the past 6 months to get a copy. If worse comes to worse can an Army National Guard recruiter process me without the DD 214? Thanks.
I appreciate the answers, but archives.gov is the NPRC, which is on my list of where I tried to get my copy.

It would have been permd in your AKO account.
Go to www.us.army.mil Remember your old password and change it. to to the self service tab, click on my personnel tab, in the right column scroll to the OPMF tab, open it and you will find all of your military documents. If you cannot find your password or do not remember it, you will have contact info at www.us.army.mil to be able to reset your password. This of course will not be your original DD214, but should work, as it has been permed, it was legit.

Opinions on human resources jobs?

-

Is it a satisfying career? I’ve heard that at certain companies, most HR people just do clerical work and it’s not challenging for them. Other than top positions like Chief HR Officer, what do you think of HR jobs?

HR is not just a clerical job. At least one or two people in HR will be responsible for posting job ads, sifting through responses, choosing whom to interview, doing the interviews, rejecting candidates, hiring candidates, firing employees, disciplining employees, dealing with paperwork around employees (i.e. W2 forms, background checks, etc) and so on. Sometimes, they are involved in payroll. If you think that sounds rewarding, then that’s you. It’s not rewarding for everyone.

In fantasy baseball, should the extra pitcher positions go to relief pitchers or starters?

-

In my league there 2 spots for starting pitchers, 2 spots for relief pitchers, and 3 spots for starting OR relief pitchers.

Is it better to load on starting pitchers, meaning lots of stats from those guys, even if they take up dead space, in the pitching position, or is it better to have relief pitchers occupy those 3 extra relief positions?

And if it helps any, the total positions in my league are:

C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL

And the scoring categories are:

R, H, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS, XBH, W, CG, SV, K, HLD, ERA, WHIP, PICK

Because you have Holds as a category you’ll need to get a few more RP if you want to compete in that category. RP are nice because they can’t kill your week with a bad start like a SP can, also they typically have lower ERA/WHIP an on top of that they play more games in a week. I would use 2 spots for pitchers that specifically wil get you holds and use the other spot for a SP. Good luck in your league!

Can you move up in human resources after years of being a human resources assistant?

-

Is it possible without furthering education. Maybe just getting certification and a hr certificate.
I have a bachelor’s degree, I just don’t have money or want to pursure a masters degree.
lol, actually I don’t work in human resources yet. I was going to apply for assistant position first, but I want to know if you can move up without all that schooling. thanks for answering.

You would think an HR person like yourself would know that some combination of these factors can lead to advancement in a company: further education, good work experience, on the job training, intelligence, hard work, and accomplishments.

What should I expect my annual salary to be as a first year employee in Human Resources?

-

I am signing a letter of intent today at a NYC Based IT Solutions firm. I am wondering what I should expect to see as an annual salary.

I am 23, with an internship at the firm.

Bluewolf to be specific.

It all depends on your experience and location. Sometimes there are websites that can help you calculate where you should be. There was one I used a couple of times but I can’t remember it. Sorry… I found this one for you though. Hope it helps!
